Metricon Stadium welcomed back the Gold Coast Caravan and Outdoor Expo from March 1 – March 3 after a year hiatus due to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, and it came back more popular, bigger and better than ever before! The Expo, that has been held at Metricon Stadium since 2015, sees thousands of people explore hundreds of caravans, campervans, motorhomes, and lots of other exciting outdoor adventure items across three days.

The first day of the Gold Coast Caravan and Outdoor Expo started with a few showers but nothing could turn away the crowd with over 3,500 people coming through the gates on the Friday. With over 150 exhibitors ready to welcome the visitors with some looking to purchase their first caravan or just looking for an upgrade, there was so much to see and do. On top of the exhibits, there were some great family friendly activities – including a great set up from AFL Queensland and the family trackless train. Friday also saw the first of the weekend schedule of towing seminars in the Chairman’s Club, which attracted a huge audience of camping and towing enthusiasts.

Saturday saw the biggest day crowd for a Caravan and Outdoor Expo Metricon Stadium has ever seen! Over 6,000 people walked through the gates and enjoyed everything the Expo had to offer, this time with more activities than the day before. Just like Friday, the clouds welcomed our visitors with a touch of rain just as the gates opened but cleared quickly to ensure day 2 was full of sunshine. For the Expo, The Lounge (Level 2) was transformed into a café and restaurant with an offering customised for the show, including a carvery, pizzeria, dumplings, cold items, and bar. If you didn’t get a chance to get to The Lounge this year, you should definitely put it on your list for the 2020 Expo – it was super busy, had a great atmosphere, lots of additional stalls and it is airconditioned (which provided a great relief for many of our visitors). Out and about, there was a rock-climbing wall in action as well as a band playing at the Fifth Quarter Bar plus AFL Queensland were back with their inflatables set up on the Training Field. We thought the Expo couldn’t get any better after Saturday, but we were wrong!

Sunday did not disappoint, and another 6,500 people graced the Caravan and Outdoor Expo, some coming back for a second or third time to finalise their purchase and some because they were having too much fun. The weather seemed to quite enjoy greeting our visitors with a quick sprinkle when gates opened so mother nature back was back at the Expo for a third time as well! Our favourite moment from Sunday was the cooking demonstrations on the Cooking Stage at aisle 104 – which included tutorials on how to use cooking stoves, the best meals to cook when on the road (or sand) and showcased some of the best biodegradable cutlery and crockery. Our team at the Stadium is starting to think that we need to jump on board and test our skills out in the bush. Outside of the cooking demonstrations; The Lounge was pumping, the stalls were popular, the rock climbing wall was watched constantly by the eyes of excited kids, and the band kept everyone entertained at the Fifth Quarter Bar.

As the 2019 Gold Coast Caravan and Outdoor Expo came to a close on Sunday night, we couldn’t help but get excited for it’s return in 2020. If you came down to the Expo this year, thank you for sharing another Caravan and Outdoor Expo with us, and if you didn’t get a chance to pop down, hopefully we will see you for another exciting Expo in 2020!
