The old Carrara Stadium was outdated and ill-equipped to handle the requirements of an AFL club as a permanent tenant. With the introduction of a seventeenth AFL licence on Gold Coast to commence in 2011, it was vital to redevelop this facility to a standard at which it could facilitate regular AFL matches. As a result of this redevelopment all but the original six light towers have been demolished.

CSC has been a venue for a variety of community sports and events for a number of years, these include hosting junior sporting carnivals on a regular basis and hosting AFL on the Gold Coast, as well as being the home to the AFL’s first Queensland based club, the Brisbane Bears from 1987-1993.
